Filmmaking Workshop at Broadway Cinema


Thrilled to be back at Broadway Cinema on Sunday the 12th of November to lead a #filmmaking workshop! We’ll cover the entire production process, from crafting a #screenplay to self-distribution. Can’t wait! 🎬 


Are you passionate about film or filmmaking? Would you like to learn something new? Come join our unique workshop and learn the art of filmmaking.

The workshop will be led by award-winning director, screenwriter and producer, John Harrigan. John will share the knowledge he has gained over the past 12 years from working independently of studios, focusing on the real-world skills required to make a feature film and will share many helpful tips and tricks.

You will learn helpful skills and gain insight into the filmmaking process, learning how to utilise location and landscape to create compelling stories.

What’s Included?


The day will run from 10am - 4pm and will include lunch and refreshments.

The workshop itself will include screenwriting lessons from an award-winning writer where you will learn how to direct and work with actors and a film crew. The course aims to cover the following topics:

  • Introductions
  • Fidelity to ideas and the development process
  • No, low and indie film budgets
  • Story and screenplay development
  • Pre Production - from script to screen
  • Production - the unforeseeable as a gift
  • Post Production - the raw story as rushes and how to see the real story you’re telling
  • Releasing a film independently or gambling on the film festival system
  • The Future of Film, AI, Algorithms and the Technologies that are changing the face of filmmaking


The workshop will conclude at 4pm but those attending will be invited to stay at Broadway for a special screening of Inland Empire, a film that has been carefully selected by John. There will be a break at 4pm with the film starting at 5pm.

Everyone is welcome, no previous experience in filmmaking is necessary, just a passion for film. Ages 16+.

‘Inland Empire’, directed by David Lynch (Mulholland Drive, The Elephant Man, The Straight Story), tells the story of ‘a woman in trouble’. It features an outstanding performance by Laura Dern as Nikki and Peter J. Lucas as Nikki’s husband, with supporting cast, Justin Theroux (Nikki’s co-star, Devon) and Jeremy Irons (Kingsley Stewart), as well as an original soundtrack by David Lynch himself.

This screening has been carefully selected by John Harrigan, those attending the filmmaking workshop will be able to watch the film as part of the day.
